SAN FRANCISCO, CA -- Calling occupants of interplanetary craft! This September heralds the galactic return of the Original Contest for Drag Queens Trapped in Women’s Bodies, THE FAUX QUEEN PAGEANT: the Next Generation.
The FQP is an only-in-SF glamour contest establish in 1995 by Diet Popstitute and Ruby Toosday, continued by the KLUBSTiTUTE KOLLECTiVE, and benefits many local community organizations. Originally intended for female female-impersonators, that is, women-pretending-to-be-men-pretending-to-be-women, the FQP is now a celebration for female drag performers in their own right. Brought out of the void by Bea Dazzler and Holy McGrail, the revitalized pageant will prove to be a gender-bending space oddity!
“Wacky, wonderful... WAY over the top,” exclaims Reuters on CNN.com.
This year, candidates will compete with a “Cosmic Space” theme in a Fashion Walk and Talent Competition. (PSST! Audience members can literally tip the scales, with bonus points granted with each dollar tipped!) Fauxs vie for fabulous prize packages from donors including Cushion Works, Kent Taylor Photography, Trannyshack, and Peaches Christ Productions--but only one will be cosmo-naughty enough to walk away with the title, FAUX QUEEN 2012!
SF legend Leigh Crow (as Captain Kirk) and fearless singer/producer Trixxie Carr are at the helm to get strange in a strange land as the evening’s Emcees.
The unbelievable line up of Celebrity Star Judges include Heklina, Fauxnique, Birdie Bob Watt, Cricket Bardot, Ruby Toosday, L. Ron Hubby, and Deena Davenport.
The universe gets a little less Sirius as uproarious comedian Nick Leonard jets around selling $1 jokes; and kicky Kegal Kater put the curve in the space time continuum with kissy-facepainting.
The FQP has raised tens of thousands of dollars for local organizations and this year’s beneficiaries include Mickaboo Companion Bird Rescue (mickaboo.org), SaveABunny (saveabunny.org) and Women Organized to Make Abuse Nonexistent, Inc. (womaninc.org).
The FQP is on Sunday, Sept 16, 2012 at DNA Lounge, 375 Eleventh Street, SF. Doors @ 7pm, Pageant @ 8pm. Tickets $15 at the door; $12 in advance at dnalounge.com. 18+ welcome! More information at fauxqueenpageant.com. The FQP is produced by Bea Dazzler, Holy McGrail and the KLUBSTiTUTE KOLLECTiVE.
“We are honored to have this unique pageant and community event pass into such capable hands. It is now truly a pageant for Faux Queens by Faux Queens,” gushes the FQP previous producer, Cameron Eng.
16 -- Save the Date! Open those hailing frequencies--hail, girl--and
stand back! Stand back! These women need their space!

ABOUT THE KLUBSTiTUTE KOLLECTiVE: Since 1990, KLUBSTiTUTE continues to parade the glamour and the gore in honor of a rich tradition. We strive to set the stage for underground Queer Cabaret, wacky theme parties and kinky drag performances. We founded the KLUBSTiTUTE KOLLECTiVE to continue these non-traditional traditions after the passing of our inspiration and founder DIET POPSTiTUTE in 1995 who created and sustained a legendary line-up of freaks, performers and events to make the most jaded queens come out in joyful celebrations of abandonment. Productions have included the ROCKY HORROR SUPERSTAR: the Jesus of Frankenfurter Story, PromSTiTUTE, Ruby’s Rated X-Mas and the VIRGIN QUEEN CONTEST for 1st Time Drag Queens. We are honored to pass the Faux Queen Pageant torch into such capable hands, and look forward to all the drink tickets we’ll be getting.
